What started out as an idea of "hey, let's jump on marta, go downtown, take some snapshots, grab a bite and head back home on the train," somehow turned into, "hey, since we're here let's just walk east, stop to eat, go back to the old neighborhood and grab the train from there." Five miles later we had seen the heart of Atlanta and many of the beautiful neighborhoods that reside just east of Downtown. We walked up and down the hills of Ponce de Leon Ave., meandered through Freedom Park, stopped in for sunshine and spectacle in Little Five Points and had a cup of tea and a cupcake at Dr. Bombay's in Candler Park before riding back home to Decatur.
And it was awesome.
The end.
Lovely pics! I've never been to Atlanta but it looks like a fun place to check out.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely! We wanted to explore the city like we were tourists, and because we mostly hang around the areas just outside of the Downtown district, we really felt like it. The weather was amazing! Perfect weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love this post. My honeymoon this summer is an American road trip (we're both British) and I really hope we get to Atlanta now.
ReplyDeleteSam- If you do, please write me first! We did the Downtown circuit yesterday just for a bit of fun, but the real gems of Atlanta are the little neighborhoods surrounding it. Candler Park, Inman Park, Reynoldstown, Little Five Points and Grant Park are all so fun and beautiful! I wish I had taken more photos of those areas. Next time for sure!
ReplyDeleteThose Jesus Buses live just up the street from our house. It is called Save Atlanta Ministries, pretty intense. I believe that they just drive around and pick up people who need Jesus, which is surprising when I see the buses full.
ReplyDeleteG- Yeah, we saw two more lined up behind this one. J wanted me to get it because of the "fear God" line up at the top of the bus. Where do they house them? In a church lot? I mean, I could see it being beneficial; although, it seems a little cult-ish. Maybe? I don't know. I couldn't help it-- flames were so appealing.
ReplyDeleteLove the second to last pic! Looks so cozy.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! Your sense of color is phenomenal. Never seen the hometown look so beautiful. Are you a transplant or did you also grow up there?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm from about 30 minutes outside of the perimeter. My father did business in Atlanta with an office there. The highrises were like playgrounds when we were children because he'd take us to visit them on the weekends. I'm very familiar with the city, especially after going to Georgia State. It's a nice little city. Where are you from?
