Laura Mercier Spring 2014

First, let me just confess that I am totally obsessed with makeup and learning new techniques. Sephora TV is THE best and has helped me achieve looks I had failed again and again. Yes, behind the stacks and stacks of books, there's a makeup geek here, too, and I'm so happy I can write about these pleasures in addition to my love of reading. So here goes...

The latest kits in Laura Mercier's spring 2014 line are must-haves.

The Enlightenment Eye & Cheek Palatte - I love a good neutral palette. This particular kit not only delivers some truly beautiful and long-lasting shadows, it also gives you two new blush colors. If you're the kind of person who likes to pack light, this kit is it. You can wear each shadow alone, or add the darker shades to compliment a smoky eye (just throw in a chubby eyeliner stick). The blush pigments might not rival NARS, but they're certainly pretty and gave me a nice flushed cheek. My only complaint with the blush is that it doesn't stay as long as the shadow.

Perfection Lip Trio in Matte Red: I love a red lip (especially a matte lip), but hate when I constantly have to worry about it wearing off. This trio is AMAZING. The pencil and lipstick can be worn together for a perfect matte finish. The gloss is great to add a juicy pop, but can also be worn alone. I recently wore this out with a group of girlfriends to dinner and didn't have to reapply!

What spring collections are you eyeing at the moment? Have you tried these?

  1. I love that you are talking about makeup - how fun! Red lippy is awesome - my mom is a huge fan of it! She also loves how Taylor Swift swears by read lips as well :) I'm more of a natural color - a light shine to my lips, but have been thinking of taking the plunge and going for a red. For some reason I feel as if I'm playing dress up in red lippy. Its ridiculous, I know. Anyhow, I loved this post - thanks!!

    1. Nadia,
Yay! Honestly, I just started getting into bright colors and found that matte was my favorite. I've always felt that I've looked ridiculous with any color on my lips but finally said screw it. It feels fun and I like it! I'll be including this in another post but I love the maybelline matte sticks - and they have tons of really bright, fun colors! They were really my stepping stone. I'll be writing tons of makeup reviews in the future. I realized I had so much to talk about!

    2. I love that you realized you have more to talk about. Plus, just because we talk about books, doesn't mean we don't love fashion or makeup. I recently read an article in my copy of Elle written by the author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie that talks about her love for fashion, but how she hid it when she became an author. People were judgmental toward female authors who looked as if they were into fashion and she didn't want that to happen to her. Isn't that crazy?! But, I can totally see that happening. Anyhow, reading that article made me think of your blog and how you've expanded it and I love that. There are so many sides to people - why hide them, right? 2. You have me intrigued with the red trio--I'm in a wedding in April and thinking of doing red lips, but desperate for something that I don't have to constantly re-apply for photos and the like. This could be the perfect solution.

    1. Yeah, I think this would definitely work. I would try a matte because they've always just been better for me. A lip stain might work, too. I've got a few of the maybelline matte stains and I like them as well.
