Spring Essentials: Lush

I love Lush. And no this post isn't sponsored by Lush. I genuinely love their goods and am always up for trying new things with the help of their super knowledgable staff.

Little known fact: I actually worked at a Lush location in Atlanta for a year after college. I think of those days fondly-- the people are awesome, the products are easy to sell, and you're always learning something new.

Anyway. I compiled this list after a recent trip to a Lush shop I discovered when I accidentally took the brown line train instead of the green line train while attempting to get home... the joys of new city life! I guess it was a win? Here goes...

Face

Fresh face masks are ahhhmazing. I honestly don't try to mess with my skin too much because it can be sensitive and likes to fight dirty when provoked. So. I use these rather sparingly. Although they discontinued my favorite, A Crash Course in Skincare (WHYYY?!?), I've managed to find a couple that suit my needs.

1. Oatifix is your go-to if you're feeling like a reptile with flakes and scales for days. It's moisturizing on account of the banana, and get this, smells like cookies due to the vanilla! For those of us still seeing winter days, go ahead and pick up a pot before you greet spring.

2. The Brazened Honey is a bit harsher, so definitely only try if you're looking for a purifying cleanser that also exfoliates when washed. Almonds are ground down to gently rub those dead skin cells away, while lime oil penetrates to brighten. You'll definitely notice significantly brighter skin after using this one.

Lips

Most people don't even think of their lips when they're reviewing their beauty regiment, but let's just say that those bold color pops that are trending everywhere don't look so sexy on dry, cracked lips. True, lip scrubs are easily made at home (hell, all you really need is some brown sugar), but these little pots are reasonably priced, work excellent, and taste amazing.

3. Mint Julips lip scrub is essentially mint chocolate chip ice cream in sugar form. Delicious! You take a tiny pinch, rub on dry lips, then rub off, or as the website says, lick off. I like to keep mine in the shower to apply right before I get out. It's the perfect prep before applying my daily makeup.

Body

Last but not least, bubble bars. I gathered, by working at Lush, that there are two kinds of people in this world: those who love taking baths and those who can't stand them. If you fall into the latter category, jump to the bottom because I'm not offering much here. I do love baths but am not fanatical about them. I like to sit in a nice hot bath for a good 30 minutes or so and then go about my business. These blocks of deliciousness make that 30 minutes so much more pleasant, and based on the fact that you can break them up into the chunk size that best suits you, it's really not so bad shelling out eight bucks for a bubble bath.

4. The Rose Jam Bubbleroon is a fun little take on the recent French macaron trend you see nearly everywhere these days. Decadent little discs of almonds and sugar, these bath bubbles are just as sweet. The center is nice and creamy, providing extra moisture so you're left feeling extra smooth after soaking, and the rose scent is faint so you can breath it pleasant floral notes, without being overwhelmed.

5. The French Kiss Bubble Bar is hands down my favorite. I had a million of these when I worked at Lush. I even crumbled some, sprinkled them in my car, and then vacuumed them up so I could take the scent with me. The light lavender scent not only leaves me smelling beautiful, but also helps me rest at night. I love using these right before bedtime so I can drift off to sleep with my favorite book and wake feeling refreshed.

Love Lush, too? What are your go-to products for the season?

  1. I'm a recent convert to Lush, and YUMMY the oaty facemask sounds delicious... I just finished my pot of the Cupcake facemask, which is basically like smearing chocolate ganache on your face. It makes a mess of your shower when you wash it off, but it smells lovely! I bought the Mint Julips sugar scrub as well, and have thus far resisted the urge to eat it, and I ALSO bought the Sympathy for the Skin body lotion, which smells like banana and vanilla custard and is SO LOVELY to moisturise with after you've dried off. Okay now I've made myself hungry. :D

  2. I really need to make a trip to Lush. It's one of those places that I'm like "I think I like the things here, but I don't really know and also I don't want to ask people about the stuff cos I feel dumb" which is not founded on anyone in the store being anything less than helpful and more on personal anxiety. But yeah, that lavender thing? I think I need that.

  3. I just bought my first Lush products and totally converted my skin care routine. Let the Good Times Roll scrub in the morning to exfoliate and get my skin ready for the day, and 9 to 5 cleansing lotion to remove makeup, cleanse, and moisturize at night. I love the smell of the scrub, but when I run out I'll probably switch to one that does a better job of calming redness. I've only had 9 to 5 for a few days, but I love how much easier it makes my bedtime routine!
