Pretty Post for a Valentine

Yep, it's almost that time again... Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and the internet is bursting with creative DIYs and treats to consume! I may not be the biggest fan of the holiday of roses and chocolates and diamonds, but I love the cute cards and fun recipes that come out around this time of year and wanted to share my own picks for the day.

Note: Now that I've relocated to an area where the sun rarely shines, and there's no shortage of snow, I am almost completely convinced that this holiday was created in some tundra like town in order to add some color, and provide a little reminder that love is not lost, in order to make it through winter. Yes, this may be a bit dramatic but cabin fever is setting in. Send help.

I have a major weakness for handmade cards with quirky messages, bright colors, and cute packaging. Seriously. I have a collection. I'm like you're grandmother minus the Hallmark situation. So, if you're like me and want to spread a little love without emptying your bank account, simply pick up one of these ridiculously cute cards and make someone's day!

A Post: You're a Book Nerd. It's Okay.

Sometimes I realize that I'm a serious book nerd (I said it). We all know that most of us read A LOT more than most people (seriously, no judging, but people are shocked that I enjoy reading as much as I do). It's cool. I just shrug my shoulders and then brush them off. It's not so much the reading that makes me aware of just how deep these nerdish tendencies lie, but the fact that consumer goodies that are BOOK RELATED make me all giddy inside. It's like little literary references around your house, and those people, you know the ones that don't read, they have no idea that they're gazing at some amazing line from some amazing work. You do. And it's like a little secret just for you.

Because J and I have the Etsy shop, I'm on Etsy A LOT. Like too often. And when I'm not talking to people and negotiating shipping prices, I am definitely trying to find things that scream book nerd! Yesterday, on Twitter, I casually mentioned that I found a mug (featured below) I really wanted and posted it for all the people to see. Then my boyfriend came home and casually mentioned that he got me something and I casually guessed it. But it wasn't so casual because there was a lot of guessing involved and then jumping around and then hugs and stuff.

So why not share the fruits of my labor with you guys?! Maybe you'll get something and make some Etsy seller really happy.

Austen inspired. And a must have. Drink your coffee (or tea) in style with this gem.

A Birthday Post

I never managed to celebrate my first blog birthday because I remember being too busy to even think. BUT I really wasn't about to let two years go by without mentioning it at all. You know, two years is something worth celebrating. I can't even stick with the same brand of toothpaste for two years, or car insurance, for that matter. So two years of reading and writing and connecting? You better bet I'm gonna celebrate. (I didn't bake these cupcakes for the blog, but for my niece's first birthday party. Can you say ombre success?! And some said it couldn't be done.) The blog's birthday is actually the 8th of July, but we'll just act like this isn't a belated act of shame.

It's certainly been a great ride. I've met so many incredible people and have finally started to tame the beast that is social media. I'm confidant and headed in the direction to do wonderful things. I appreciate all the sincere comments when I announced the sad news in June. The process of healing hasn't gotten easier, but moving forward and doing the things I love is something Nan would have wanted. She was always so proud and full of love. I appreciate the encouragement and understanding during my absence.

I've been so pleased to share in the growth of other bloggers, and to share my own growth recently, when announcing the opening of the Etsy shop, Scout&Score!, with my boyfriend. We're working on a website with the same name that will feature all the things we enjoy most in life. Slowly but surely we'll be doing much more of what we love and a lot less of what we don't.

I appreciate all the great book recommendations, great discussions and readalong/reading challenge hosts. This blog, and other blogs, have brought my reading back from the depths, and was just what I needed. How awesome does it feel to walk into a book store and know the plot summaries on almost all those new releases sitting on the shelves?! Come on, you know you've considered the feeling before!

Because I can't throw a huge giveaway, or bake goodies and send them your way, please accept my sincere thanks for making blogging so awesome. You guys are the best.

Bookworm Meets Bookworm Announcement

The past couple of months have been a whirlwind. To give you an idea: J & I have visited 10 states in four months. Talk about CRAZY. We've visited friends, family and interesting places. I cannot even express my gratefulness for the life I'm living. So... in the midst of driving and flying and hugging and goodbye-ing (had to), we've also been putting our creative hats on and devising plans to lead lives that make us even happier.

J & I have both had lofty goals all of our lives. He may or may not have been in a popular band in his early 20s that had him flying around the country, seeing the sites (I have been sworn to secrecy), but that was then and this is now. We want more than the 9 to 5 and we both want to incorporate travel into the everyday. We toyed around with various endeavors, and are both currently working on creative side projects with the hopes of growth, but ultimately decided to begin our jump from the norm with the creation of our Etsy shop: Scout and Score!, a vintage kitchenware fun house.

Getting everything together and pushing it live was so incredibly thrilling. We may play the waiting game while it grows, but we're doing it and it can't be better than that! It's so much fun going out and hunting for treasures in forgotten places. Our adventures have helped us gather goods from various spots in the US and is something we're working on incorporating into a mini-travel blog. The entire process is a project I look forward to playing with each and everyday. By the way, you can find us on Twitter by searching @scountandscore.

I just want to stress that I've been blown away by the amount of support and kind words I've received from the blogging community. I can't express my thanks! Seriously, you guys have really made my week! It's definitely another indication that creating this blog was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I hope everyone has an obnoxiously happy weekend!

Things, Glorious Things- A Post of Objects

With new responsibilities this bookworm has had little time to read.  Yes, it's quite saddening, but I'm learning so much in my position that it's only a matter of time before I have things under control and can resume my regular reading schedule.

So, I wanted to post this to prove that I'm very much still alive, and missing my community of blogging friends. I really wanted to share some recent finds that I've purchased to celebrate the new developments in my life...

First, tea parties.  Yes, I love tea parties.

What bookworm doesn't like tea?  Well, I'm sure there are many, but to make this work we'll just pretend that everyone loves a good tea party as much as I do.  With recent discussion of hosting a tea party for my book club ladies, I decided to begin to assemble an assorted tea set.  Growing up, my grandmother frequently held tea parties for my brother and me, instilling manners, and the love of delicate porcelain beauties, such as the ones provided below. While searching on Etsy I found The Vintage Teacup, and fell in love.

Here are two that have been shipped and will soon join my collection:

Here are some other goodies for my tea/book loving friends:

What are you reading?  I'd love to know!
