A Post: A Blog about Reading & STUFF

I stink at blogging. Or book blogging. I stink at reading. I fall asleep as soon as I even attempt to read a book. It's downright depressing.

Such is life.

The next two and half months are going to be INSANE, people! Don't worry... details to come! Plus, remember when I mentioned that I was planning to get married?! Yeah, so I'm doing that too. Thank god we've decided to push it all the way back to November 2014 because I have no idea how I'd do it all if it were any sooner.

I'll admit that I wasn't necessarily thrilled with the prospect of wedding planning when the whole engagement thing sunk in. I was more than happy to have a short and sweet ceremony with the fam and then throw a big ass party. BUT THEN... I found THE dress and all my dreams of sugar plums and carefree wedding planning were dashed. J thought that if we were going to do it then we should do it right. And BIG (sort of).

Many of you have voiced that you want to see the dress since you know it's been ordered, but there's this whole thing about J reading this blog, and then, you know, the tradition that the groom shouldn't see the bride's dress before the ceremony or the whole relationship is DOOMED. So. I can't post it. Sorry, really I am. But I can totally post pictures of dresses that almost made the cut but just weren't exactly what I was looking for. Yes, I know. I promise that I'm not a narcissist, even though I have to say that almost all the dresses looked pretty amazing. They did. Seriously.

Without further ado...

Ok, ok... a teeny, tiny preview of the gorgeousness below... (but that's all I'm sharing!)

So now I'm super excited about all the other things I get to start thinking about despite the fact that weeks ago I was dreading the whole process. I'm sure I can expect some real highs and lows, but am going in with the most positive attitude and the idea that it will be so much fun!

shop details:
The Sentimentalist
Absolutely beautiful shop, glamorous gowns, and amazing people! I think I've told everyone I know.

Hopefully this won't just turn into wedding blogging... no promises, folks. Can't wait to share my exciting news and get back into the reading scene.

What have you been up to lately?

  2. The dresses that you almost picked are right up my alley :) Simple but lovely! You're making me want to get married all over again. It's crazy, making all the plans but man it's fun!

I hope you find your way back to reading soon :)

    1. Exactly! I want something more elegant and feminine. I ended up with a full lace gown instead of the short party dress I imagined! So far I'm loving it. J is pretty good with keeping me from reaching a ridiculous level of stress so I think we'll make a pretty good team!

  5. You are going to be a gorgeous bride--love the look of all that ivory. So much fun. Hope you enjoy every minute of the wedding planning. Cause hey, we only do this once, right?

    1. Thank you, Beth! I really love the ivory as opposed to the stark white on my skin. Plus, we're doing a fall wedding so I think it's perfect. That's exactly what J said when I was unsure about getting the fancy dress. We will only do this once so why not make it count!

  6. Love the photos!
And that is like the best bridal shop in the world, and I would know because I visited what felt like a million horrible, tacky ones whilst picking my own dress.
Did you end up with the style you thought you wanted? I thought I wanted short & fun but ended up with a full length and lace.

    1. Sam, it really was soooo nice. I wanted to avoid the large bridal boutiques and go somewhere that was more my style. I really had my heart set on finding a gown there & ONLY one stop... can't complain! I totally had the same idea as you with a short, fun dress but ended up going with the lace as well. Changes the wedding details, but just makes it more of a challenge!

  7. That is gorgeous! Looks great on you, you made a really great choice. I can see how the dress would spark the excitement.

I hope your reading woes and busyness settle down some and that you have a relaxing summer.

    1. Thanks, Carl! I'm very excited about it all now.

I do too! Maybe the week long beach trip with my family will allow me the time to read and really get into a book! Hope you're well!

  8. Well, this lady says you can talk about wedding planning as much as you want! It's fun to live through it again vicariously.

I hope you find a few free minutes to read and blog though! :)

    1. You're too sweet! You've got so many exciting things going on too. I actually really enjoy the personal aspect of book blogging. It's nice to get to know someone a little more than just what they're reading at a certain time.

& Me too! I desperately want to read but just haven't found anything. :(

  9. Wow! Those dresses are AMAZING!! They look like dresses I would pick ;) You look beautiful in the dresses you tried on - thanks for sharing! And, I definitely understand now wanting to show THE dress - you can't mess with tradition! Enjoy the planning process as much as you can - sounds like you have the right attitude about it :) As far as reading goes, the books will always be there - no worries.

    1. Nadia, Thank you! I agree that they were all gorgeous. I honestly was happy that none looked absolutely horrendous on me! I put a little clip of it on the bottom just as a tease. It's so very beautiful. I'll probably never have the opportunity to wear a gown this nice again so why not! And you guys really are the best.. I hope this slump wears off SOON!

  10. I stink at blogging and reading too lately, so I totally understand where you're coming from. Also, you can blog about whatever you like, I will read it because it's usually the person behind the blog that keeps readers around isn't it? :)

I love all the dresses you shared with us - how did you ever choose one?!

    1. I seriously can't get into anything! I can't even sit down to read without falling asleep. I hate it but hope that that will change soon.
& It was such a hard decision but the one I went with blew the others away BIG time.

  11. Aww yay wedding dress shopping! And yay for finding the dress! It's so nice to be able to check that off the list :) I can't wait to see when you can finally share the dress (though I understand having to keep it off of her, lest people see it who should not). Now off to the rest of the sugar plum big wedding party planning.

  12. Ooh, these photos are so lovely, and I always love a lace dress. So exciting, and great that it's starting to feel like a fun process! (I was the same way about some of the "traditional" stuff and dreaded some of the decisions and pressures that came with a wedding, but if you make it about being a fun event with your loved ones, you're going to enjoy it for sure.)
