A Post: From Atlanta to Chicago

Two years ago J and I decided that we'd stop in Chicago on our way home from his family reunion in Batavia, Illinois. I had never been and it had been ages since he had so it seemed like the greatest idea ever. Although we didn't get to spend more than a day there, I was in love with the city from the minute we arrived. The leaves were bursting with bold colors, the sidewalks busy with people passing, and skyscrapers that made my neck hurt just looking at them. While I currently live in Atlanta, it doesn't necessarily have a big city feel, so it was nice to move at a different pace. When the time came to leave I knew I'd be making a trip back, and immediately began researching all the places I needed to see on a subsequent visit. I've been again since but still haven't had nearly enough time to see ANYTHING. I started thinking that maybe some kind of change was necessary, and, well...

It looks like I'll have plenty of time to explore the windy city and maybe even come love it as much as Atlanta. And the BIG news: J and I will be relocating to Chicago at the end of August!!! We're beyond thrilled to begin a new chapter and explore a new city! If you're a fan of Chicago, or a current resident, please share recommendations of things to see and do!

Many of you probably already knew this so it's not so much of a shocker! I'm kind of terrible with keeping secrets (my own anyway). There will be more news to announce shortly before the move, but I'm sure I haven't been completely quiet on that one either...so, if you don't know, look out for some more great news!

(We are huge baseball fans so this is especially exciting... except that I'll never be cheering for the home team!)

Also, I should probably mention a book since this is a book blog. I recently started reading Madeline Miller's Song of Achilles and absolutely love it. Can't wait to finish and share.

How's life? Any big developments or changes in your world? I'd love to know. Have a beautiful weekend!

  4. Congratulations! I also just made a big move, to Austin, Texas. It's exciting! I drove through Chicago once and the only impression that I got was smog, but I'm sure that's just because I was on the highway. I hope you love it! And I'm glad to hear more good stuff about The Song of Achilles - I'm super excited to read it at some point!

    1. Oh wow! I've always wanted to visit. How are you liking it so far? I've actually never really seen pollution too crazy when I've visited Chicago so that's odd. It's usually blue skies and pretty clouds! So far I'm loving it but also trying to fit it in with all the other things I'm juggling!

    1. Laura, I'm a terrible book blogger & I know it. Eventually I'll probably only be posting once a month as I'm starting something new that will take up almost all of my time outside of work. We will see! I am SO excited. I will definitely be sharing my adventures.

    1. You aren't kidding. I'm like cold in the SUMMER here. I'm not sure how I'll make it but I guess that's what love makes you do.... crazy things! Cheesy, yes. Hahaha.

  8. So exciting! My sister and her husband are living in Chicago right now, close to Wrigley actually. They LOVE it. And every time I visit I wonder why I don't live there too. I love the lakeshore, the Frank Lloyd Wright home tours in Oak Park, having a drink at the top of the Hancock, doing architecture tours by boat, eating at Rick Bayless' restaurants (XOCO and Frontera Grill)...

    1. We're actually moving to Oak Park which is BEAUTIFUL. The commute is ridiculously short so we'll probably be in Chicago more often than not. I'll have to keep all of these mind so we'll have plenty to do when we arrive.

  9. Congrats! Moving to Chicago sounds super exciting. I've only driven through, but I really want to make a real trip there sometime soon. I'm moving soon, too! From my hometown back to Buffalo, where I went to college and where my boyfriend lives. I love the city, and I'm so excited to live there again! Plus, my boyfriend and I are getting an apartment together, and I can't wait to live with him :)

Finally got into something which is very exciting considering it took forever. Hopefully I'll actually have enough time to finish before the move! I'm sure I'll be reading like crazy when I move since I won't really know anyone at first.

  12. I am so slow on blog reading this week--congratulations! And welcome to the wonderful Midwest! I adore Chicago, and it's only 5 hours away, so I try to make it every few months, mostly to eat at all of the amazing restaurants. Good luck with the move!
