We're still getting married. I'll still be using my dress and my pretty shoes. Hell, I might even change my last name. (Still an ongoing debate in my head.) But we'll be doing it in London, England!
It's been years since I've been out of the country, and much longer since I've visited one of my favorite cities, London, so it felt like the perfect decision. And the mister will be leaving the US of A for Europe for the first time, so it seemed like it would be even more special to see some favorite sites and then do some exploring in cities neither of us have been to. We'll visit London, Paris, and Edinburgh during our week long celebration.
We're in the process of booking the lovely Tori Hancock to document the day with her sharp and dreamy eye, and we'll be holding a symbolic ceremony with just the two of us in a location we've yet to choose. We've thrown ideas out: parks, ancient book stores, a bridge, but just haven't decided. We'll top it off with champagne and cake at a swanky establishment and reflect on all of our blessings.
I really give it to all the ladies and gentlemen who are currently planning their own vow exchange and commend them for their patience and vision. I just couldn't do it. It's so much work and tons of money and sometimes that stress is enough to break you. And because the wedding should be a day to celebrate the commitment of one individual to another, the promise to love and endure all storms till eternity, we recognized that doing what was most comfortable and doable for us would be the most beneficial in the long run. So cheers to London and a life together!
While we've been keeping our own running list of places to go and things to do, I'd love suggestions you might have to make this special trip even more so! Cheers!

*I should note that our family and friends were very supportive of our decision to do what was best for us. I think it goes without saying that there would be the normal disappointment of not sharing that day together.
That is awesome that you've decided to say no to the wedding you don't want (and the most other people seem to expect AND that you'd started putting money towards) and go with what will really make the two of you happy. I commend you cos that is a touch decision to make. HAVE FUN
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have so much respect for you because I know you're busy planning! In the end this was just more us and I think that's what's important. I don't think I'll ever regret it and I'm getting a trip to the UK out of it!
DeleteGood for you for deciding to do what's right for the two of you rather than what's expected -- and I love that your wedding will be so adventurous! I hope you have a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteAdventurous is exactly the word! We need to start learning some French! Thanks and I'll be sure to share some plans before we leave!
DeleteAWESOME. London is one of my absolute favorite cities. A wedding can be great and have wonderful memories - I especially loved the feelings of love & support that come with family/friends being there to celebrate with you - but what fabulous memories this trip is going to hold for you two. And if you haven't been there, as a reader you must of course visit the British Library. So great.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am sad that I won't get to do it with my whole family with me, but I know that it really just works out better this way. We were really concerned about our families never meeting because of the distance, so we still want to do something to bring them together that just doesn't cost so much. The library is always a must see!
DeleteI love the fact that you decided to do something was right for you and made you happy instead of sticking with something that you felt half-hearted with. I hope you have loads of fun and share the photos with us! London is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I can't wait to get back. I already have a huge list of new places I want to visit once we get there. I have a close friend living there and she's also on the hunt for some exciting excursions. It's going to so much fun!
DeleteThat sounds perfect! I love London - it is one of my favorite cities. Edinburgh is pretty cool, too. You are going to have such a fabulous time - what a fantastic way to get married and celebrate your life together :) I love this idea! Can't wait to read about your trip and see your fantastic photos of it. Have a wonderful time and safe trip!
ReplyDeleteIf you have recommendations on things to do and see in Edinburgh I would LOVE them!! I have almost everything in London and Paris covered, but I haven't had the chance to research Scotland. Maybe a day trip? Of course I want to see some trendy spots in the city too! And thank you so much! You know I'll be sharing the photos.
DeleteI've never been to London, but kudos to you for doing what is right for your wedding! It's so easy to get caught up in all of the craziness but at the end of the day, it's just about the two of you!
ReplyDeleteI hope you will let us know about the venue when you pick it out! :)
I had no idea! That sounds like such a fun alternative though. Also, pictures should be great if you get to book with that photographer. :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Beth! I think it's amazing what you two are doing! I think too many people have the weddings they do nowadays because of other people's expectations. Good for you two for following your dreams - I can just imagine how beautiful and amazing it's going to be.
ReplyDelete(Sorry for this late, late, reply! Having a baby has put me a month behind in blog reading/commenting! ;))
Oh wow, Beth! (Eek, I had no idea! I haven't been reading blogs for over a month!) I think this is awesome - following your hearts and ultimately getting married the way you guys want to. No one can fault you for that, but I can imagine it was still hard to break the news to your family. We did what we wanted which was a destination wedding, and even then, some of our family took a lot of convincing to attend. Your day is going to be so beautiful and special! I hope you will share some of the photos with us! :)
