Thesaurus Thursday

One more day and the weekend's here!  I'll be watching my sweetheart play his last show with his band, It's Elephant's, at the 529 Club in East Atlanta Village tomorrow night! An event that will undoubtedly be coupled with feelings of nostalgia, gaiety and sadness. Here's to a great show! On Monday, W.W. Norton & Norton, released Lan Samantha Chang's All is Forgotten, Nothing is Lost, which I'll be posting a review of this coming weekend.  I highly recommend this novel for anyone who enjoys thought-provoking dialogue, strengthened with elevated language in a palatable manner. Today's word, virulent, can be found while Roman, our protagonist, engages in heated discussion with one of his most promising students.  The word's negative connotation is indicative of the underlying gloom that resides within the novel's storyline. (Hopefully, this will not detour you from reading Chang's latest title.)

Virulent- Adjective, 14th Century. 1. Marked by rapid, severe, and destructive course. 2. Able to overcome bodily defensive  mechanism : markedly pathogenic.  3. Extremely poisonous or venomous.  4. Full of malice : MALIGNANT.  5. Objectionably harsh or strong. 

What I would say: As his facial profile changed to that of utter contempt, she anticipated the virulent words that would soon begin to spew from his lips.

Thesaurus Thursday

Thursday- Thursday- Thursday!  Looking forward to an entire weekend of relaxation and book reading.  Lots of book reading.  I might even attempt to tidy up the apartment while J is out of town. Who am I kidding?!? I'll probably just read.  What word seems fitting for the one day that I get to leave early from work each week? How about roisterous? 

Roisterous- Adjective, 1582. 1. to engage in noisy revelry : CAROUSE.

What I would say: The roisterous laughter of the girls reverberated throughout the cabin. 

P.S. Tonight I'm baking a scrumptous pumpkin butterscotch pie to bring in the new season.  Yummmmy!

Thesaurus Thursday

I was really looking forward to the content I was going to be able to provide today after attending last night's lecture at the Atlanta History Center featuring Jonathan Safran Foer.  Sadly, an appointment I had ended up exceeding the allocated time and I didn't get out until after the lecture had already started.  I'm not really upset that I paid for the ticket and didn't go; I'm upset because I had been anticipating the event for weeks, looking at my calendar, counting down the days. My new mission is to find someone that did attend the lecture and persuade them to provide a guest post...wish me luck!  This weekend has so much in-store for me that it's hard to be too down about missing Foer speak.  Check out the events going on this weekend at the AJC-Decatur Book Festival if you haven't already. 


So it's finally Thursday.  I love Thursdays because I love the fun-filled weekends that constitute my routine and because Thursday is really close to Friday, and Friday's kind of like a weekend day... well, you get it!  So here we go: I've pulled many words from my ARC of All is Forgotten, Nothing is Lost by Lan Samantha Chang which I'm currently reading.  I'll be providing a review of this eloquently crafted novel the day of it's release, September 27th. 
Today's word: Redolent.


Redolent: Adjective, 15th century. 1. exuding fragrance : AROMATIC. 2. A: full of a specified fragrance : SCENTED. B: EVOCATIVE, SUGGESTIVE.


What I might say: Thanksgiving nostalgia prompts a longing for the redolent aroma of pumpkin pie and roasted sweet potatoes.
