A Post: Recipes for Bookworms?

Hi there, bookworms!

I can't tell you how much I enjoy blogging. I love setting goals, working towards them, and meeting great people along the way. However, as much as I love it, I want to make sure you love reading it!

As you know, I occasionally feature my baking creations and really love the process and the feedback. With that being said, I'm thinking about incorporating reviews of cookbooks and the like into the blogging schedule, but wanted to put some feelers out first. Is this something you'd want to see here? If so, let me know in the comments below. Specific requests? Go ahead and throw those up there as well!

Feel free to leave any other suggestions of things you'd like to see in this space!

  1. I say, go for it! I love blogs that are diverse in the content and include bits about cooking, traveling, life. Makes you feel like you are getting to know the blogger. Besides, its your blog, so I say blog about what you want to blog about. That's what I'm going to do. I have a few cookbooks to review and I'm excited to post about them. Good luck and I can't wait to see your foodie posts!

    1. Really. That is so true. I try to incorporate some personal in with all the book reviewing. I feel like many of alternate blog topics are actually more popular so I think it's something to look into starting. Thanks for the great advice... as always! I've got a few cookbooks up and I'm thinking this weekend will be the perfect time to start on them!

  2. I agree with Nadia both in the "yay for content diversity" and also "write what you want cos it's your blog". Besides I'm interested to see a cookbook review. Or even how you do that. Do you need to try out a certain percentage of the recipes?

    1. Ally,
Ok, you make a great point. I've been thinking about how to review a cookbook. I'm not really sure I'd do a ton because I have a habit of buying cookbooks and making recipes from them little by little. I thought I could just feature a couple of recipes, ones that I've made, and then leave it up to the reader to decide if they want to look into it. We'll see! But I appreciate the comments from you and Nadia. I think it'll be nice to start something new.

  3. Ooooh, oooooh, I'd LOVE to see cookbook reviews! Cause, I really really love cookbooks, but I don't really have very many, so obviously I need something else to spend my money on (loljk) but really no, yeah, please do this!

If I might just respond to Alley too, I feel like you don't need to have tried out ANY of the recipes to review a cookbook, because a LOT of the cookbook is about the way it looks and the variety of recipes it has and stuff. Because those are the kinds of things that make you want to even try out the recipes in the first place!

Damn, maybe *I* want to do cookbook reviews...

  4. Laura! You should. There's a group of lady food bloggers that I follow that bought a certain cookbook, picked one recipe a week, and all made it with their own slight variations. It was super cool!

I think I'm just going to pick a couple out of each book and then go from there. I can practice the picture taking and try new stuff. My bf just got me the Momofuku Milk Bar baking book and HOLY CRAP am I going to make some crazy insane sweets. If you haven't seen it, look it up NOW! :)

I've also decided to try some on Netgalley and think it'd be a great way to discover new ones that I need to add to the collection. Thanks for the encouragement!

  5. Yes! Variety (even - or perhaps, especially - in book genres) is the spice of life. :-)

    1. Debbie,
I'm thinking I have to do it! I try to throw in pictures and travel tips, but recipes would be really fun!

  6. More recipes on the blog means more amazing treats at the house. I am in favor of this new development.

  7. I personally would love it! Your blog should be about whatever interests you and anyway, I love cooking myself and am always on the lookout for new recipes and ideas.

  10. I think this is a fab idea! I'm always looking for new recipes and it would be cool to have you test them out for me, ha ha. I'm lazy ;) I'll be interested in seeing how you go about reviewing a cookbook too. Groovy idea, good luck!

    1. Hahah! That is so true. A plus to the blog world for sure! I don't know if I'll necessarily do a lot of recipes, but definitely sample. I feel like if one's good, you can play around with others if they're not to make it so. Perhaps I'm a little too reliant on the eyeball method! Ha :)

  11. I love coffee and chocolate, so a Mississippi Mud cake just comes as perfect. Plus, it makes the best companion for some southern reading.

    1. I've never tried that! I don't even know what's involved but if there's chocolate I'm game! I didn't even think about recipes with reading. Have you seen the blog where the woman makes recipes from books she's read? It's really neat!
